Professional Ethics and Boundaries


Agnes Furey

In the past year, since Agnes retired in April, 2009, she has attended FSU College of Social Work, Criminal Justice in Social Work and Poetry Therapy, as well as the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the Pepper Center at FSU. Agnes has been a guest speaker at the Restorative Justice Class and the Chemical Dependency classes for several years. She has participated in the Faces of Recovery Program at the Capitol and consulted with the staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Behavioral Health,when they were planning to open their Co-Occurring Disorders program.

Agnes is an an active member of Compassionate Friends, the Grief, Loss, Trauma program for youth and was elected to the Board of Directors of Big Bend Mental Health Coalition and serve as a member of the board of Tallahassee Citizens Against the Death Penalty. Her LPN license is current. She has renewed her Designation as a Victim Advocate with the Office of the Attorney General and is a Victim Advocate with the Tallahassee Police Department. Agnes completed the Tallahassee Police Department Citizens Academy. She is a writer and read at various community functions, most recently for Sexual Violence Awareness at FSU, FAMU and Amen-Ra Center. Several pieces have been accepted for publication.

Agnes also participates on the editorial review board of Apalachee Review. She is currently employed with the United States Census Bureau. Notably: Agnes Furey was the Florida School of Addictions Studies Professional of the year for 1987.

She spent over a decade working within chemical dependency residential treatment programs and spent another 20 plus years working within a private practice in Tallahassee, Fla. Dr. Scott Fairchild is a licensed psychologist who operates Baytree Behavioral Health in Melbourne, Florida, and serves as the Founder and Co-Director of the Stress, Trauma, and Acute Response (STAR) Team for Kennedy Space Center. Additionally, he has founded Welcome Home Vets, Inc., a not-for-profit organization operating in Brevard County to support returning veterans in their transition back into the community.


Dr. Fairchild is a graduate of the University of Denver and has been in practice since 1989. He completed his doctoral work on Human Interaction in Space Travel and Space Operations and also later trained in Aviation Psychology. He was selected for the first congressionally mandated Psychopharmacology Demonstration Project, which trained psychologists to prescribe medications.


Dr. Fairchild has presented at a number of national and international conference, most recently at the International Congress of Critical Incident Stress Foundation conference, sharing his team’s experience with Disaster Mental Health Services following the Columbia Disaster. He has worked with mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as other brain-based disorders. He has recently partnered with LifeBridge Diagnostics of Louisville, Kentucky to bring this most valuable technological tool to Brevard County to serve the needs of patients throughout the entire Southeast.



Traci Jungkurth

Professionally, Traci spent most of her young adult years in sales, marketing and promotion with the majority of that time working in network television with FOX and ABC affiliates. Personally, she married Joseph Hughes in 1982 and was bleassed with two sons, Joesph Christopher and Stephen Peter.
Her life changed course persoanlly and professionally whn the entire family was in a car wreck in 1996 and Christopher and his father Joseph were killed by a drunk driver. Trace and Stphen Peter survived the crash and she began serving in full time ministry. Christomer Ministries was born out of the tragedy.
Changing courses require more education, so Traci completed her Bachelor's Degree in Business at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1999 and her Master's Degree in Counseling in 2003 at Ashland theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio; the seminiary is a division of Ashland University. Traci is a Ph D candidate in Gener Psychology at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Traci is a licensed professional clinical counselor and is licensed to practice in the states of Ohio, Tennesee, and Florida. Cameron Allen

Cameron Allen, founder and president of Synaptic Connections Research Institute, is currently an M.A. Candidate at Capella University in Charleston, South Carolina and earned a B.A. in Psychonology at Mars Hill College in Ashville, North Carolina. Allen has been a consultant to a variety of organizations such as Life Stream Solutions in Arizona, Life Bridge Diagnostics in Florida, and Brain Enhancement Solutions and Technologies in Orlando, Florida in addition to many others. As a research assistant to Dr. Charles Grant, Cameron assisted Dr. Grant in the evaluation of amino acid blends and delivery methods to ameliorate frontal lobe and meolimbic disorders, evalutaion of cranial electro-stimulation device as a dopminergic agonist to decrease acute withdrawal symptoms, and the evaluation of the practice of mindfulness as a dopaminergic and serotonergic agonist as a toll for self regulation during oxidative stress caused by PTSD and Withdrawal.
Cameron Allen also participated in several publications that were featured in the Journal of Post Graduate Medicine.
Cameron is currently scheduled to speak at the Holistic Addictions Treatment Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada and is a Webinar Presenter for Addictions Alliance.



State of the State


Stephenie Colston

State of Florida's Director of Substance Abuse

Stephenie Colston assumed the position of Director of Substance Abuse with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) in December of 2005. Ms. Colston also simultaneously serves as the Deputy Director for Treatment for the Governor's Office of Drug Control.


Ms. Colston previously held the position of Senior Advisor for Substance Abuse with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS). In her role as the SAMHSA Administrator's Senior Advisor, Ms. Colston counseled SAMHSA Administrator Charles Curie on all substance abuse prevention and treatment issues and initiatives.


Ms. Colston also served as Senior Advisor for Demand Reduction to White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director (Drug Czar) John Walters for six months.



Bob's Boxes

Bob has over 35 years experience in the field of addictions treatment. Beginning his career in the early '70's, Bob pioneered the outreach into the local schools and co-founded a peer-counseling program for Sarasota High School that still exists today. Bob was honored at the Counselor of the Year by the Florida Drug Abuse Treatment and Education Association (currently FADAA) in 1984. Currently serving as Vice President of Residential Services for First Step of Sarasota, Inc, Bob oversees residential addiction treatment programs that serve several special populations: clients with Special Foresnic Mental Health (status 916), and Court diverted female clients with Criminogenic Forensic needs. Bob also oversees a traditional 28-day treatment program and half-way house.

Bob has served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Florida School of Addictions Studies and continues to sit on the board and is a member of the school faculty. Bob has been an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida and the State College of Florida. He is a credentialed provider for the Sarasot Criminal Justice Academy and has trained over 300 Law Enforcement officers in Crisis Intervention Training. He currently serves on a County Workgroup working to bring a Community Corrections Center to Starasota County.

bob has served on the FADAA/Florida Council Statewide Joint Co-occuring Workgroup for 7 years and wa the first Chair of the Project Management Team for the Sarasota County VIP-ER program uniting 7 agencies into a program to serve homeless people with addiction disorders.

Lastly, Bob stars in a soon to be released DVD of "Bob's Boxes, The Disease and the Kling-ons", a 3 hour one man performance distilling down the disease concept of addiction.

Casey Collier, M.A. is currently employed by First Step of Sarasota, Inc. as the Program Director for the Crossroads Program, a long-term residential substance abuse treatment program for women involved in the Criminal Justice System. Miss Collier is currently working towards her Licensure in Mental Health Counseling and has been trained and certified in Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), which she has been pioneering with First Step's residential programs since August 2009.

Ted Adams holds an MS, BSW and AAS and currently is a lecturer with Springfield College, Tampa, FL campus. He was a director of the outpatient program at St. Peters Hospital, Albany, NY. Ted was responsible in developing and maintaining volume and budget requirements. His involvement with developing and marketing of referral sources and was Chairperson of the staff development committee for the SPARC system. Ted’s background also includes being a workshop facilitator, case manager and supervisor of new staff and students.


He developed and implemented curriculum for job readiness workshops, and developed and maintained relationships with employers in the Capital District for internship and job opportunities for clients He facilitated groups that had both a process and educational component and worked closely with the treatment teams to provide the client with the best possible care.


Tom Camp

Tom Camp, MS, CAP, IMH, is currently the Vice President of Juvenile Services with Operation PAR and has been serving in a clinical management capacity with the agency for over 15 years. Tom began working in the addictions field in 1985 and has been a Certified Addictions Professional for over 23 years in both Florida and Texas.

Tom’s educational experience includes; a Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas), a Masters degree in Community Psychology, from Springfield College (Tampa), as well as, Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) and State Licensed, Registered Intern Mental Health Counselor (IMH). One of Tom’s primary areas of expertise has been in the development, implementation and expansion of treatment alternatives to the incarceration of adults and juveniles.

Tom presently handles all Juvenile Justice contracts and adolescent programming for Operation PAR and has been centrally involved in three federally funded projects, focused on reduction of recidivism and treatment success of youth, significantly involved in the Juvenile Justice system.

In addition, he has earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Psychology, Master’s of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. He is a Certified Addictions Professional in the state of Florida, Certified Addictionologist, and an Internationally Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor. He is presently the Assistant Professor/Director of the Master Of Science Program in Mental Health Counseling at Springfield College, Springfield, MA (Tampa Florida Campus) in addition to participating in a private practice and contract work as a professional trainer/consultant.


Dr. Pecoraro is presently involved in various workshops and seminars nationally and internationally. Dr. Pecoraro has been the past co-host of the television show Global Health Watch (1.2 million viewers) and past co-host of Here’s Help Radio Show (350,000 South Florida listeners). He has previously participated in practicum rotations required by Psy.D. She began working in the field 16 years ago as a prevention specialist in the public schools. Laureen currently serves as an Executive Board member of the Florida Certification Board, and is Chairperson of the Case Presentation Method (CPM) Committee, as well as Clinical Supervisor for the oral exams. She has served as the President of the Southeastern School of Alcohol and Other Drug Studies Alumni Association. She established the Gadsden County Substance Abuse Coalition, and serves on the board of the Florida School of Addictions. She is also on the board of directors for Floridians in Recovery. Pastor Berry was employed at the Florida State Hospital as a Unit Treatment and Rehabilitation Specialist Supervisor II. She believed God was preparing her for the ministry in the substance abuse field when she was employed as a substance abuse counselor and case manager at (Salvita) a local treatment center. She resigned this position after she founded Redeemed Incorporated, and now works full-time as the Chief Executive Officer.


Pastor Berry graduated with honors from Springfield College in Tampa, Florida receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Services with a concentration in Alcohol and Drug Studies and a Masters in Human Services with a concentration in Organizational Management and Leadership. She is also a candidate for her Master Portion for Mental Health Counselor Licensure. Pastor Berry holds a number of certifications including Certified Addiction Professional, and Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
