ABOUT THE TRAINERS:
James Knorp: James Knorp has worked in the substance abuse field since 1981. He is a certified instructor in abuse and mental health. Mr. Knorp has been involved with program development, maintenance of quality improvement standards for both JCAHO and CARF, and group, individual, family and couples therapy. Mr. Knorp currently is project manager for SCATTC, Tallahassee, Florida and is a Adjunct Professor at Florida State University, School of Social Work, since August of 2002. Jim Knorp also currently serves on the Florida School of Addictions Studies Board of Directors.
Tedd Moorehouse: Tedd has served in the substance abuse field for over 25 years. He received his Certified Addictions Professional (CAP #801) credential from the Florida Certification Board in 1989 after serving four (4) years as an Advance Alcohol and Drug Treatment Specialist in the U. S. Navy. In 1990, Tedd received International Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC #6014) recognition from the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Durg Abuse, Inc. (ICRC/AODA).
After retiring from the Navy in 1991, Tedd worked in both the public and private sectors fo the substance abuse treatment industry. He currently collaborates with public institutions of higher education as well as other agencies, providing leadership to improve the quality of education for new substance abuse counselors throughout Northeast Florida.
Tedd has previously served as president of the former Florida School of Addictions Studies Alumni Association, and as a member of the Florida School of Addictions Studies Board of Directors.
Tedd received his B.A. in individual studies with a major in Management and a minor in Psychology from Columbia College in 1997 and completed a dual Master's Degree in Management and Human Resource Development from Webster University in 2000.
COURSE SYNOPSIS:
Participants will: 1. become familiar with Addiction as a disease; 2. receive an overview of "drugs of choice"; 3. become familiar with Addiction and its effects on the brain; and 4. receive an overview on treatment interventions, relapse factors, and aftercare.
